Before this I have never imported any vehicles to NZ let alone one from Japan! I decided to give these guys a shot and bought a JDM Tesla into the country in the midst of the oil price hikes. The process is painless end to end and I was well looked after by Mike. Definitely recommend Japan Car Direct for the auction and shipping service.

The team at JCD made buying a car from another country easier than I could have imagined. I worked with Yoshiro and he always replied extremely fast when I sent links to cars I was interested in bidding on and even offered advice on how to more effectively judge the condition of a vehicle to pick out exactly what I was looking for. Would recommend to anyone looking to import their first car, or even their tenth.

Imagine you want to buy a car from Japan. You aren't there, you have no contacts there, you don't know the system. What can you do? I know the answer to this one! Do business with Japan Car Direct. I was that newbie, I had so many question - so many concerns. Mike Nguyen was kind enough to respond to everyone of them with patience and kindness. I can only imagine that almost every one of his multiple clients are doing the same thing - maybe at the same time! If that is so, I never got the feeling that I was a pest (I probably was). The result for me was a pleasant surprise. Probably due to my location, the car came faster than I imagined. My whole process (winning bid to delivery) took a month and ten days. So the moral is let these pros take care of you - because they will. The happy ending is that you will get the car of your dreams and these guys will have your back the whole time!

I used Japan Car Direct to bid and win a Daihatsu HiJet Cargo. Mason was my point of contact and was brilliant in guiding me through the process, detailing how to make the initial deposit to allow bidding, detailing the auction costs and shipping costs, so that I could work out a budget. The platform for searching vehicles that are coming to auction was easy to use, and Mason was very helpful in explaining all the vehicle description codes and provided a really useful review for individual vehicles that I short listed, and then arranged for the vehicle to be independently inspected prior to bidding. Payment on my winning vehicle was straight forward by BACs to Japan Car Direct and then Mason took care of arranging shipping, and sending through the bill of lading and other documents. Once the vehicle arrived at the JCD yard I received very comprehensive photos. Shipping took about 7 weeks from Japan to Newcastle in the UK, and the vehicle arrived safely in perfect condition. I used RJJ Freight for customs clearance, which made the process of getting the vehicle into the UK stress free.

Mike helped me with purchasing and importing my first JDM car (JZX100 Chaser). Throughout the entire process, Mike was extremely professional and I really appreciated his availability to answering all my questions/requests. Despite the numerous amount of questions I had (I am an extremely anxious person), responses from JCD were always concise and carried a very professional tone which I particularly appreciated and I think is very representative of working with a Japanese vs US-based company for importing. Initially, I was split between using JCD versus a US-based importer (like The Import Guys). But after considering the material difference in pricing, especially given the JPY FX rate, I thought I'd go with JCD given they are based in Japan and I figured paperwork and communication between them and other local entities in Japan would be easier. Sure enough, no regrets! Everything went extremely smoothly after winning my bid, I was essentially hands off when it came to getting the car out of Japan. The only clarification I'd provide to other potential customers is just recognizing that JCD provides all services up until the car is on the boat, then its on you to coordinate with a customs broker and shipping company to have the car clear US customs and get released. All in all, JCD really handled all the paperwork needed and I couldn't have imagined a more simple importing process. Wouldn't hesitate to use them again!

When starting my path of importing a JDM classic Land Cruiser, I spent weeks doing research before actually committing because I’d never imported anything before. I was fortunate to come across Japan Car Direct, and that’s where I met Mathew. Wow, where do I start with Mathew..... (Just kidding Chicago!) Mathew was fantastic, from spending time on Skype answering all my questions to teaching me everything I needed to know to successfully find the truck of my dreams. Well today in fact I picked up my truck at the port, and it was in even better condition than I could have seen in the pictures and from the reports provided. Guess what, just ordered another one! They were always kind and courteous, and very understanding about the time difference issues between the UK and Japan. They always kept me up-to-date on the status of each step along the journey. All-in-all I had a really great experience dealing with them and also when adding up all the costs involved (purchase/freight/import fees/tax/registration/etc.) I got a £12k vehicle for below £7k. Super happy with the service/experience/results... would use them again in a heartbeat.

Both Andrew and Matthew were patient with me as I searched for my dream FD. They told me what to look for on the auction sheets and helped me spot some issues and let me know when to avoid a car. I worked with Mathew on getting my first Japanese Kei truck. The process and communication were great. For me the back-and-forth communication was the reason why I decided to go with japancardirect. Being able to see the auction trucks that are coming out and getting a detailed translation of the auction sheet is awesome. I can't say anything negative about my experience with JCD. Despite the time difference, everyone communicated quickly and thoroughly. Yoshiro did a great job steering me away from junk vehicles and aided me in finding something very nice. If you're considering purchasing a JDM vehicle, you'd be foolish not to use JCD!

A great experience for my first time importing a car from Japan. Mike’s customer service was second to none and all the paperwork was in order.

After doing a bit of research I settled on using JCD to bid at the Japanese auctions for me and to facilitate the import of my dream car into Australia. Whenever I saw a car of interest, Mason would normally reply within an hour with a short video translating the Japanese auction sheet and additional info he had. They also organised additional inspections and photos at your request before you bid. Once I placed a winning bid, they used a partner shipping company (Dolphin shipping) and transferred all the info to them. From there the shipping company had a few extra questions and shipped my car and sent me an invoice for their services just before the car landed in AUS. These guys are very accessible, friendly and do a great job. Highly recommend. Thanks Mason for a job well done!

Fantastic service, helped me through the process of importing my JZX100 to the UK, Everything was clear and fees were low, worth every penny though, fantastic and couldn't have asked for more!

I purchased / imported some cars from Japan to USA with others before using JCD, so I have a little experience ...Although I am just doing this for fun I have imported 7 cars now. The 3 I bought before going with JCD all had hidden problems. Of course, buying auction cars is always "buyer beware". But with JCD Yoshi always pointed out small details and gave some suggestions before the bidding. He didn't say "no, don't do it" but gave a hint ... ok a few times he definitely said "DON'T" ... but that's what I want and need from someone facilitating this kind of purchase! Communication has always been A+ from Yoshi and JCD. They are on the ball... The fees are reasonable, and while I bet you can get a car to a US port for a few dollars less, I am not sure why you would want to. There are A LOT of misrepresented cars in the Japan auction system. It's thorough in some ways, but you have to know the risks and do what you can to mitigate them. JCD should really be part of that plan, part of understanding what you are going to get before you get it. A couple hundred bucks for inspections or other JCD services could prevent thousands later. I know because I learned the hard way by using others before coming to my senses and using JCD.

Mat is is the best he was right on target and video descriptions are perfect. Shipping was alot faster than I thought it would be, as JCD didn't mess around. My van was at port and ready to go. I will be using JCD again soon, got my van now I want a car.

This is as good as no-sight car buying can get and I 100% recommend using these guys. Take your time, work with them, and you'll get exactly what you want. I was in the market for a Skyline and told Yoshiro what I was looking for ('98 or older, RWD, no rust, no accidents). He asked a few questions to gauge how much I cared about different aspects. I sent them the deposit and got started. From there I used their auction database to find cars I was interested in and I spent about a month looking at different auctions. Many times Yoshiro would discover something about the car I wouldn't have caught that made it a no-go, and his honesty probably saved me from a few lemons. Eventually this R34 closed without meeting reserve, and Yoshiro guided me through the negotiations process (which I was completely unfamiliar with). You only need 1 bank transfer to pay the rest of the fees which simplifies things. After that was done he got the car moved to the shipping yard. This was during peak covid, so of course there were tons of delays getting it onto a ship. Yoshiro provided regular updates, and once it was loaded he immediately sent me all the relevant documents and helped me find a broker to transport it from the port to my house. I'm extremely happy with the car and am super grateful that I had the help I did from the JCD guys to get it. It was honestly way simpler and easier than I thought it was going to be, and I almost prefer it to buying from dealerships!

A must for exporting cars from Japan. I've exported various models with these guys now and they have been exactly how we wanted them with no underlying issues or surprises when they arrive. Very pleased and will continue to use these guys in the future!

Excellent service from beginning to end. I registered over the new year holidays and received an automatic out of office response and also still received personal response indicating when auctions resumed. The process takes doing your own due diligence to study the cars you want but the guys at JCD will assist where they can as well.

Mathew and the fine folks of JCD were pros and I couldn't be happier with my Honda Acty Street. Shipping was easy to follow, they laid out exactly how to go about picking up my van from customs and getting it home was a breeze. Been driving it for a few months now and still purring away. It's scary buying a vehicle sight unseen but they are willing to double check everything before you even put your bid in. The right hand drive is rad and my little baby Racoon gets quite a bit of attention. The only thing to make sure of is check your state laws. Some states are trying to pull Kei trucks and vans off the road. But that is no bearing on JCD. Everything on their end was silky smooth. Would love to buy another couple and have a whole fleet! Even came with original manuals and some artwork from the previous owner's children! Can't put into words how happy I am! JCD rules!

As a first-time importer for personal use, I really appreciated Mathew's @ JCD's patience in answering my questions, walking me through the process, and even explaining the paperwork! My minitruck attracts a lot of attention, so I will send folks your way if they are interested in getting their own! (Side note: if importing into the US, particularly Baltimore, I recommend arranging or planning for a steam-cleaning once it gets in, because US CBP/Dept of Ag will likely require one anyways.)

I had been searching for someone to purchase a car through for about 3months before I found these guys. These guys should be your only consideration when buying from japan. They are the only group I can say I had no red flags with. I worked with Matt, and he couldn’t have been more helpful. The process was made so easy I’m thinking about my next purchase. I was able to find my 1 owner Supra at an amazing price one day before the auction and began to panic because I thought I wasn’t able to get in touch that fast to coordinate the bid. But I was wrong and he was able to get right in there and get it. All estimated wait times were accurate, and was pointed in the right direction for every piece I needed after the car was shipped out. He was able to provide a go to for it all. Making this almost as easy as an Amazon purchase. It’s kinda unreal that you can just buy a car from Japan this easily, but these guys made it happen. Thanks again.

After seeing quite a few Kei Trucks on the road, I was intrigued. Seeing the local retail prices gave me sticker shock, so I immediately thought there has to be a better way. Sure enough, that way is Japan Car Direct. Yoshi and team are knowledgeable, professional and responsive. They do what they say they are going to do before, during and after the transaction, they are in it for the long haul. The result of reviewing the auction listings and acquiring/importing yourself (with help from JCD) is substantial savings and the satisfaction of paying a fair price. It's also fun if you enjoy searching for and identifying great automotive values. Would not hesitate to recommend their services to others and I will be back for more vehicles in the near future.

I hunted the internet for a broker I could trust with my money. JDC won and I am so happy I went with them. Matt and Yoshi are great. Matt puts up with a very demanding customer in me, I can certainly take up time. Matt sends me cars from the list I sent him, when I don't have time to check the auction. It is scary how accurate Matt is when I ask him to predict a selling price. He is always very close which sometimes is not fun but he really does know pricing. They have walked we through buying two cars now and have held my hand on both. I really apricate all the time and knowledge. After purchase they have also held my hand through the whole import process which can be daunting for a first timer. I am a dealer and Matt is great at suggesting other cars to import as well. I am very satisfied with my choice

I'd been looking to buy an RF series Honda Stepwagon to convert into a mini camper for a while but the UK prices always seemed too high. I had joined a few JDM import sites to get an idea of auction prices and costs (including Japan Car Direct) but just couldn't bring myself to take the next step, it seemed such a risk ! Finally after reading so many good reviews for JCD (and Mathew in particular) I took the plunge and contacted Mathew. After he answered my many questions regarding costs, fees etc I felt confident enough to pay the deposit and start hunting the Japanese auctions for my Steppy. My budget for the Steppy was pretty low (pathetic even !) but I felt Mat still put the same effort into replying to my questions and queries as he would have done if my budget had been into the tens of thousands. The result was I now have a very tidy Stepwagon with lower mileage than any vehicle I've ever owned, I've paid far less for it then I would have done buying in the UK and I've got a bigger budget now for the camper conversion. I wouldn't hesitate to buy through them again, and hope to do so soon.

I have already purchased 3 cars from this company and have a 4th on the way. They are very nice, extremely helpful, and work around your budget. I worked with Yoshi. He is very nice and made me a lot more comfortable with the wire transfers (after purchasing the vehicle), because let’s be honest, it is nerve racking to send money to a foreign country and have to wait several weeks for your vehicle to arrive. However, everything has gone smoothly, and they make it very easy to import the car of your dreams. I will continue to go with Japan Car Direct for all my japan car needs :D

Awesome experience working with the guys at Japan Car Direct, I was looking to find a specific spec J90 Land Cruiser Prado (2 door, black, low milage) and managed to locate one at a used car dealer in Japan. Mason helped every step of the way to coordinate with the dealer, make the deal, transport the car to the port, coordinate with the port staff to store the Prado till it turned 25 years on the month (had to sit at the port a couple months), and then finally have the Prado cleaned before it was loaded on the boat. Lots of pictures always accompanied updates and any questions I had were answered with no problems. Everything was super easy and zero stress. Definitely will be using these guys again in the future!

Just drove my Japanese market 1991 Mercedes 300d to work for first time. Picked up from the dock last week and the car started right up. It runs quiet, is clean and was obviously well taken care of. I checked blowby via oil filter cap, and the compression seems very good for this diesel. Scott made the process of sorting through and deciding on this car easy and enjoyable. He helped steer me away from what might have been some poorer choices (check the auction sheets!) and we finally found the right car. If looking for a quality used car, the Japanese domestic market has superior stock to choose from (the Mercedes I got, like many European cars there is even LHD). Scott is the guy to get you in to that market - very easy to talk to and quick in responding to queries.

I purchased a 1994 4wd Suzuki Carry Kei truck through JCD. Yoshi helped me during the process and after nearly 3 months and over 100 emails back and forth between questions and translations of auction sheets I finally decided on a truck. I've now had it for nearly a month and couldn't be happier with the purchase. They are extremely promt with responses and answered all questions I had. Being completely new at the importing process I never felt uneasy with my decision. If I ever decide to import another vehicle I will definitely use them again.

I chose JCD based upon the recommendation of a neighbor. I already had a car on its way from another company and knew that I didn't want to go through them again for my second car. Selecting the car was a much more pleasant and interactive experience and I felt much more confident in my purchase that I had before. Scheduling/shipping was transparent and I had all of the documentation in my hands well before I needed it. Awesome experience working with Taylor, he was extremely helpful and patience. It was my first time exporting a vehicle and he walked me through step by step and didn't mind answering all my millions of questions. I probably looked at 100+ different trucks and Taylor was instrumental in helping me make informed decisions on which trucks I should try to bid on and which ones I should probably avoid. I ended up purchasing three mini-trucks, one for myself and two other family members. We love them!!!! Great for working around the farm or yard, hunting, taking to the mountains and cruising the back mountain roads or just a daily commuter as I use mine for. After ordering my minivan from Mathew and the folks at JCD, I will definetely use them again. Took three months to get the van but I am on the other side of the world. Van arrived in better condition than I expected although battery was dead and gas was extremely low. Other than that, the documents were sent to me promptly and the process of registering was seamless with the supplied documents. Japan Car Direct has awesome support and always quick in response. Purchased several BMW 330i, BMW 530i, BMW M5, Benz C Class, E Class, AUDI TTS and etc to import into Taiwan. They took care of everything in Japan including export matters as well. It made our importing car business so easy all done through by internet. Wouldn't say it was as easy as purchasing on Amazon, but it sure was great enough for me. They even provided me daily notification of the models I was interested in. This helped me save tons of time from searching every day. Definitely suggest for English native buyers to Japan Car Direct, it would be much much more smoother than other Japanese companies in this business.
