In recent months we’ve been exporting many good used cars to Finland. In my time here at Japan Car Direct I’ve seen changes in our export patterns for used cars from Japan to so many countries of the world but, at the same time, I’ve also seen lots of continuity in our main markets. In this series of little posts on our JCD Blog, I’d like to give folks a bit of a heads up on some of the new, or increasingly active, used car export destinations we are now working with, and the first one we’ll touch on is Finland.
Finland is actually not a “new” export destination for us at all, but recent increases in used car exports to Finland make me want to mention it first.
The best part of my job working in used car export from Japan is helping other car lovers to “score.”
Now, I’m not talking about “score with the babes,” although having a winner car can sometimes help in that direction…eh-hem…say no more. What I’m talking about is getting/scoring the right car for you.
Let me share with you three winner used cars, in three very different categories, that we recently exported direct from Japan to Finland, via the Port of Hanko. We are going to look at a Japanese kei truck, a luxury performance sedan, and a hot pocket rocket performance kei sports hatchback.
But first, before we look at these winner used cars going to Finland, let’s quickly look at the used car from Japan import rules and regulations for Finland. There’s a lot of good news here that will make some of our customers in our main export destinations a bit jealous.
Unlike, say, for the United States or for Australia, Canada, New Zealand, or the UK, (Just click on the country name for their used car import rules.) there is no age restriction on the cars that you can import direct yourself to Finland. Hooray! And a used car imported into Finland does not have to be European side drive, namely left hand drive (LHD), it can be right hand drive (RHD). RHD cars are O.K. And there is no Finnish government requirement that the car be pre inspected in Japan before it goes on the boat. Double Hooray! Things are sounding even better, eh? JCD ships our cars roll on / roll off (RORO) ships and we have RORO service Hanko in the south of Finland. All good.
Any negatives? Well, the first that comes to my mind is that you have to pay Finnish VAT tax. (Tax? We have to pay tax?….Is anybody at the table here with me surprised?….I thought not.) Actually, by European standards, it’s not so bad.
Of course it’s always best to re-check and confirm any import regulations, for any country, anywhere that you are thinking of brining a car to, and our sales guys here at Japan Car Direct are here to help you with that and help you also with the documents you need to have to import your winner car from Japan to Finland. I’m talking about the Export Certificate, the Bill of Lading, the Commercial Invoice, and things like that. At JCD we help you with all of that. O.K.. let’s look at these recent winner cars we have imported to Finland.
First, this lux performance sedan:
Here we are looking at beautiful Toyota Crown Athlete, a thirteenth generation GRS204 series car. With this car you are in the lap of luxury and you are also doing 0-100kph in less than six seconds if you want to. It’s no problem for a Crown Athlete of this series. And when I say “lap of luxury,” I really mean it. Just look at these seats!
Lovely! Klasse!
And with a face that tells you that this is a serious machine.
I said above that these cars I’m talking about that are going to Finland are winner cars, I’m not just talking about looks and power and comfort, I’m talking also about the condition of the individual vehicles. These are clean, low mileage cars. You want to know if a used car is clean and rust free? Don’t look only at the outside body panels of the car and at the seats and carpets, look under the car and look in the trunk where the spare tire is roosting.
Any complaints, Gentlemen? No? I thought not.
This used Toyota Crown Athlete being imported now to Finland is a real “score.” (And don’t miss our Japan Car Direct Blog series on the Best Toyota Luxury Cars, starting here.)
Next up: Performance and handling in a petite package.
Yes! Oh, yes you can. This little winner used Alto Works here is also on her way to Hanko in Finland. She is an eighth generation Suzuki Alto Works, turbo intercooled sports hatchback.
I’ve been a big fan of the Suzuki Alto Works and of the other delightful cars in the Japanese kei sports car class for years, I’ve driven many of them and owned one (my Mitsubishi Minica Bullet) for many happy years. I’ve even written about them here at Japan Car Direct (surprise, surprise) and I invite you to have a look at our JCD Blog posts on kei sports cars, (Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4). I love these cars!
Now this gem of a used Alto Works that we are looking at here is really nice and clean. Remember what I said above about the Crown? If we want to know if a used car is clean and rust free….we…
That’s right, we look under the car:
This is a seriously clean machine, like so many, many of the good second hand cars that come up for sale here in Japan, at the used car auctions, and at the specialist dealers that we partner with.
Someone over there in Finland has scored himself a winner with this Alto Works. I admit that I am jealous. I love these cars. (Have I said that already?)
Moving now from the performance and luxury side of things to the more practical and utilitarian side, let’s have a quick look at one of the greatest things ever to come out of Japan: the kei truck, or mini truck.
In these times of increasing complexity in everything (I myself just bought a new mobile phone, woe to me! Is it going to give me a case of high tech complexititis?), the Japanese kei truck and kei van are a breath of fresh air. Things are still simple and straightforward. These machines are highly capable, cheap to run, and lots of fun.
When it comes to exporting used vehicles, cars or trucks, direct from Japan to our customers overseas, the minitruck has been one of our top, top class of machines. We have been exporting them from Japan for a long, and happy, time, and our customers have bought and happily enjoyed these machines from pretty well day one when we opened Japan Car Direct.
There’s lots of good info on our main JCD web site about these marvels of motor engineering.
Gosh, we love Japanese Kei Trucks!
The kei truck that we are exporting to Finland that we are looking at here is a Suzuki Carry of the ninth generation, in this case a D51T chassis truck with four wheel drive. He’s a good, clean machine.
And what are we going to do? Have a look underneath, that’s right.
Looks nice to me.
Back when we had the farm (gone now since my father-in-law has retired) I had occasion to drive Japanese kei trucks on road (gravel and hard surface) and off road (mud and muck) and I had, and still have, nothing but praise for them, including the 4WD Carry. The fellow in Finland who is going to receive this used Suzuki Carry direct from us here in Japan is going to join the happy band of Japanese Kei Truck Owners World Wide.
These three machines that we have looked at quickly now are just a few of the good used cars that our customers have imported direct from Japan to Finland via the port of Hanko. Finland is one of our “hot” destinations for good used cars at good prices and in good condition from the used car auctions here in Japan. (“Good,” “good,” “good” becomes “good, better, best” to me. Yeah!)
So, if you are asking: “Can I import good used motor vehicle from Japan to Finland?” We can tell you: “Yes, indeed. You can.”
