There’s something about Ferraris that no other cars can match. Exquisite, exclusive and lightning fast, they make life more exciting in the world of motoring.
New Ferraris are fantastic
The current Ferrari lineup includes the F8 Tributo, 488 Pista and 812 Superfast, which are all stunning automotive achievements. One glance at their curvaceous bodies makes your heart race, and their performance specifications inspire fantasies of sitting behind the wheel and driving like Mario Andretti.
The 2020 Ferrari F8 Tributo
The 2020 Ferrari F8 Tributo unveiled in January 2019 replaces the 488 GTB with even sportier styling, more aggressive aerodynamics, a lower weight and a twin-turbocharged 3.9-liter V8 engine (the most powerful V8 engine in Ferrari history) that powers the vehicle from zero to 62 mph in as little as 2.9 seconds and from zero to 124 mph in 7.8 seconds. Top speed is a very fast 211 mph.
The 2019 Ferrari 488 Pista
The 2019 Ferrari 488 Pista unveiled in March 2018 features the same super powerful twin-turbocharged 3.9-liter V8 engine as the 2020 Ferrari F8 Tributo, which moves it from zero to 62 mph in 2.85 seconds. A two-seat open top variant called the Ferrari 488 Spider is also available.
“Pista” means “track” in Italian, reflecting the vehicle’s incorporation of more racing technology than any previous production Ferrari. These race-bred features include lightweight carbon fiber in the hood, bumpers and rear spoiler; refined aerodynamics that create tremendous downforce at high speeds for race car like performance around tracks; and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission that shifts in as little as 30 milliseconds in race mode, contributing to zero to 124 mph acceleration in only 7.6 seconds.
The 2019 Ferrari 812 Superfast
The 2019 Ferrari 812 Superfast is the most powerful Ferrari ever. The “8” in its name stands for 800 horsepower, which it closely approaches, and the “12” refers to the number of cylinders in its 6.5-liter V12 engine, one of the most powerful naturally aspirated production car engines in history. The Superfast goes from zero to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds, reaches 100 mph in 5.8 seconds and has a top speed of 211 mph. For a mere $315,000, a price that screams exclusivity, the Ferrari 812 Superfast can be yours.
Old Ferraris still compete
The F8 Tributo, 488 Pista and 812 Superfast are so breathtakingly beautiful and responsive that it’s easy to believe they leave all previous Ferraris far behind. But many Ferrari enthusiasts will tell you that celebrated models from the past not only rival these newcomers but surpass them in terms of value, emotional appeal and driving pleasure.
1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spyder Competizione
This stunning handcrafted 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spyder Competizione ranks among the most desirable Ferraris of all time. Sold by RM Sotheby’s in 2017 for $17,990,000, it features an aluminum body and a Tipo 128F engine with three carburetors that produces a powerful 262.5 bhp. It also finished fifth overall and 3rd in class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1959, making it all the more appealing.
Of course, it doesn’t hurt to know that every friend, family member, neighbor and enthusiast will be dying to ride in the passenger’s seat. You could easily pay all your gasoline bills by charging them fees
The gorgeous Ferrari 250 GTO is another old model that ranks among the world’s most coveted automobiles. It’s one of Ferrari’s most beautiful vehicles and most celebrated racing cars with nearly 300 victories (or first of class) in races worldwide. It’s also extremely exclusive, with only 36 units ever built. The model above was once owned by Edoardo Lualdi-Gabardi, who drove it to victory in the Italian GT Championship (1962).
In recent years, Ferrari 250 GTOs were auctioned for $38 million, $52 million and $70 million, making it the most expensive car ever sold. Experts on collectible Ferraris even suggest the value of Ferrari 250 GTOs will continue to rise!
The smart choice — used Ferraris from Japan
If you don’t happen to be a multimillionaire with holes burning in your pocket, the Japanese used car market is a smart place to look for the used Ferrari of your dreams. Over 150,000 used vehicles go on auction every week in Japan, providing numerous opportunities to purchase used Ferraris of various models and years at affordable prices.
Over the years, Japan Car Direct has had the honor of handling a number of used Ferraris. Here are a couple of used models we exported to satisfied customers abroad.
1991 Ferrari Testarossa
We purchased this pristine 1991 Ferrari Testarossa in stunning Enzo racing red from a used car auction in Japan at a very competitive price and shipped it to a passionate Ferrari-loving customer abroad. Its Japanese owner had meticulously cared for every detail and put only 26,700 km on the odometer.
Few cars in history have been as popular as the Ferrari Testarossa, which captured the world’s attention in the 1980s and 1990s. Its radically aggressive styling includes flashy side strakes that were emulated on products like the Pontiac Fiero and Honda VFR superbike. Its 4.9-liter 12-cylinder engine was also the most powerful of its time and accelerates the Testarossa from zero to 60 mph in less than 5.2 seconds. Yet power is surprisingly tractable because it generates peak torque at relatively low rpm.
The Ferrari Testarossa takes more effort to drive than more modern computer-assisted supercars, but this is part of what makes it so exhilarating. While experiencing supercar power and handling, you can also enjoy its surprisingly quiet and comfortable interior with power amenities, large meters and panoramic visibility.
Many adolescent boys who hung Testarossa posters on their walls in the 80s and 90s assumed its name was derived from the word “testosterone”, but it actually means “red head” in Italian and was derived from red panels on the camshaft covers.
When new, the Testarossa was Ferrari’s flagship model and sold for up to $220,000 in the United States. But secondhand Testarossas can now be purchased for a small fraction of their original price in the Japanese used car market as Japan Car Direct discovered with the beautiful model above.
1994 Ferrari 512 TR
This 1994 Ferrari 512 TR purchased by Japan Car Direct in the Japanese used car market and exported to a customer abroad is another example of used Ferraris that press the right buttons. Its obsessive Japanese owner put only 46,100 kilometers on the odometer and gave every detail tender loving care. Other than racing Recaro seats, he retained all of the original features.
Like the Testarossa, it was styled by Pininfarina — the Michelangelo of Italian automotive design. But its supercar performance (zero to 62 mph in 4.8 seconds) significantly outshines the Testarossa. This is because Ferrari took the Testarossa’s 4.9-liter 12-cylinder engine and fine-tuned it for quicker response and a higher top speed. Then Ferrari lowered and forward-shifted the engine and transmission to improve weight distribution for better stability and cornering accuracy.
The Ferrari 512 TR is also more comfortable than the Testarossa, with more supportive seats, more ergonomic controls and a smoother shifting 5-speed manual transmission.
Nobody can deny that the Ferrari 512 TR is a fantastic supercar and more refined than the more famous Testarossa that came before it. But a global recession and other factors forced Ferrari to manufacture only 2,261 units during its 1991 to 1994 production run. This exclusivity has contributed to a rising value in recent years, but used Ferrari 512 TRs still cost much less than their original sticker price and we obtained this stunning model through a Japanese used car auction for a very reasonable price.
